What Are Ring Tailed Lemurs

The Ring Tailed Lemur is a primate that is located in southern Madagascar, with their natural habitat of dry forests and bushes. Their name name comes from their distinctive black and white ringed tails, hence the name 'Ring Tailed'.
Male and Female Lemurs have very similar physically, they share the same average size and weight:

Height - 42.5 cm (1.4 ft.)
Weight - 2.25 kg (5 lb.)

Unlike over primates within their family tree they have a variety of differences, for example the Ring Tailed Lemur are highly social creatures and will spend a large portion of it's time with a group, which are known as 'Troops'. A troop can vary in the amount of Lemurs that reside within, ranging anywhere from 6 to 30 Lemurs, although the average troop size is 17 Lemurs. This is unusual when compared to other Lemur species as they are more independent primates.
The troop is a female dominate group although they could share an equal ratio of males to females, it is because they are known as breeding females as their role within the troop is to ensure it's species survival. Breeding females will start to reproduce at the age of 3 years old, giving birth to an average of 1 baby per year.
